In which I find myself listening to a Three Six Mafia Song.

In what can only be described as the most *unique* way I’ve ever come across a sample I was recently shown this video. . .

. . . in which someone has very cleverly spliced UNEDITED clips of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and some children talking to match up perfectly with the Three Six Mafia Song. . . Lick My Nuts. Yep, that’s the real name of the song.

Hillarity and genius aside, after I stopped laughing I took some time to listen to the song over and over again (what can I say, it’s good) and then wondered if they used a sample, and of course, they did. Curtis Mayfield – Give Me Your Love, off the Super Fly sountrack. Enjoy.

It’s been a busy week in Amandaland. . .

Saturday went to lunch at the “Hideout” then headed to Fry’s were baby needed to get a new mouse. Fry’s kills us with all the candy and random crap you can buy in line for the registers, we resisted but I couldn’t resist all the gumball machines at the exit. There was one machine that had “bling” and hoping we would get a dollar sign on a chain we went for it and got a manly gold ring, boo!  I gave it baby and he put it on his pinky and then I tried again for the chain. I got the same ring! A sign we figured so they are our promise rings now :P

(We’re still trying to come up with a clever nickname for him on the blog, but baby will have to do for now)

Later that night I spotted this cutie on 6th street:

Tuesday after an appoinment (remind me not to make appointments at 7am anymore!) I took a walk around Skid Row, it’s one of my favorite parts of Downtown, everyone is very nice and there is lots of cool stuff to see. A nice man hosing off the sidewalk told me to have a lovely day :)

I’m particularly fond of Wall Street in front of the LAPD Central Division, a lovely block of SRO’s that are well kept.  Especially pretty after dark when they light up their neon signs.  Drive by one day and you’ll see.  Totally safe too.

Spotted this on Maple:

I’ve never seen so many like that! Does anyone REALLY know what the shoe thing is about? Don’t tell me it’s drugs either because remember I was on Skid Row, no need to mark territory there!

Spotted these street art pieces on Main:

Thursday I went to the launch party for Blendr, it’s a fun social networking app from the company who brought you Grindr. It’s very cool and is going to be huge, I’m proud to call one of the developers my dear friend :) Anyway, they had a whole “Blendr” themed party atop the London Hotel in West Hollywood,

everything was their signature turqoise blue and they even had a special “Blendr” cocktail. At the end we were treated to some tasty cupcakes, I made sure to grab a personalized one. Yum!

Discovered some new music this week, Donny Hathaway’s version of the Blood Sweat & Tears song “I love you more than you ever know”.

Which reminded me about this other cool version I found the other day by Aldo Venucci.

The original is one of my favorites, glad to know there is more great versions out there!

Music Round Up!

For those of you who know me, you’ll understand why this post as been a long time coming. . . Since I don’t think anyone who doesn’t know me is reading this blog (yet!) I’ll spare the long explanation, just know that people send me music. . .lots of music.  This is at least 50% of the reason I started this blog in the first place and I’m happy to FINALLY be sharing this music with you. With that said. . .

Lot of great tracks from DailyDigger, all heavy on the samples, and all super clean on the editing and production, but this one with the great break beats and harp sounds was my favorite.  Make sure to hear the rest of what he us, every track is good!

One of the best tracks I’ve been sent, this song has some great chopping/sampling.  This one is enjoyed best with headphones.  Riddlore has lots of other great songs available on his account, I recommend the ones without the rapping over them.

My friend Ervin from Root Down and a little break-dancing crew you may have heard of, Rock Steady Crew, shared this mix with me that he made as a promo for his “Low Key” event that he throws every Wednesday at Carbon Bar in Culver City. Plenty of throwbacks and classics in this one, it’s dope! Make sure to follow his blog as well, in addition to being a dancer and dj he is also a great photographer!

Low Key (Promo Mix) by ErvinArana

I’ve never been a house head but in the last year I’ve been invited to some great after hours that played house and I’m really loving the great vibe and the wonderful people in that scene. I’m definitely a novice in this genre, but good music is good music and this mix I was sent is pretty great.  Not too bass-y, soulful.
